Welcome to the Chargent Payment Methods tab, where you can keep track of all your customers’ credit card and bank account details without viewing sensitive payment details. Pat yourself on the back for choosing to use Payment Methods since it lowers your PCI scope by masking payment details in Salesforce. Only your gateway can access your customers’ private payment details.
Whether you use Chargent Anywhere, the Chargent Orders tab, or our API, your customers deserve the convenience of storing their payment methods for easy access. This tab allows you to quickly locate and manage your customers’ payment methods.
Getting Started #
Payment Methods is automatically enabled for all customers installing Chargent for the first time. Existing customers may need to enable Payment Methods. Once enabled, it cannot be disabled. We recommend you test this feature in a sandbox to review how it works in your business process. Please visit Setting Up Payment Methods to ensure you are set up for success.
When using Payment Methods, every Chargent transaction links to the payment method record used for that single or recurring transaction. At the top of each payment method record, Chargent displays a summary of the details, including:
- Chargent Payment Method Name
- Nickname (chosen by the customer to distinguish it from other payment methods)
- Payment Method Type
- Card Last 4
- Account Last 4
For more information, see Payment Method Fields.
Chargent Payment Method Status #
The Chargent Payment Method object securely stores details about each customer’s payment methods, such as name, address, card type, and the last four digits of the card. Ideally, a payment method goes through the following states:
Unverified → Verified → Unregistered → Registered
These stages are stored in the Chargent payment method record’s Status field. Use these details to determine the status of a payment method:
Unverified | A configured Chargent verification service, such as NACHA WEB Debit Account Validation, has not successfully passed. |
Verified | All Chargent verification service checks have passed. |
Unregistered | The payment method has not been tokenized with the payment gateway. |
Registered | The payment method has been successfully tokenized with the payment gateway and is ready to use. |
Related Lists #
All related information is a click away:
- Tokens related to this Payment Method record appear in the Chargent Tokens related list.
- A list of messages to and from your gateway appears in the Chargent Logs related list. If users enter payment methods that have not been used before, Chargent runs a verification. When a payment method does not pass verification, Chargent does not create an order or transaction. Instead, it adds a record to your Chargent log. Review this log to troubleshoot issues with new payment methods that are not available elsewhere in Chargent.
