Payment Gateways

Chargent integrates with over 30 payment gateways. Additionally, feature availability differs depending on the gateway. To learn what gateway integrations are available with Chargent, see Salesforce Payment Gateways.

Feature availability differs depending on your gateway and pricing package. To learn what gateways and gateway-specific features Chargent supports, see Gateway-Specific Guides. If a specific feature isn’t available for your preferred gateway, we’re happy to help you find one that best meets your needs. Contact us for gateway recommendations.

We’ve simplified the integration process by developing the Gateway Setup Wizard, allowing you to connect your payment gateway to Salesforce in minutes. We also recommend checking out our Quick Start Guide for a comprehensive walk-through covering the initial Chargent setup process.

Yes! Check out our Gateway-Specific Guides to learn about specific considerations related to your gateway. We also recommend checking out our Quick Start Guide for a comprehensive walk-through simplifying the initial Chargent setup process.

Most gateways provide test credit cards and bank accounts that can be used to test your integration. Our Gateway-Specific Guides include information specific to your gateway. Additionally, check out Testing Chargent for more information and recommendations on testing Chargent.

There are a few reasons your gateway credentials can cause an error. See Troubleshooting Credential Issues for more information.

Security & Compliance

Yes! Most of our gateway integrations support tokenization. To find out if your preferred gateway integration supports tokenization, see our Gateway-Specific Guides. If tokenization isn’t available for your preferred gateway, we’re happy to help you find one that best meets your needs. Contact us for gateway recommendations.

We recommend all customers use tokenization, but every business’ use case differs. Tokenization allows you to keep your customer’s data securely stored at your gateway and not in Salesforce, reducing the scope of your PCI compliance. See Salesforce Tokenization for more information.

Since Chargent is native to Salesforce, Salesforce handles many of your PCI Compliance requirements. Check out Salesforce’s PCI DSS to learn more. Chargent also includes several capabilities to help you further reduce the scope of your PCI compliance. Visit our Security and PCI Compliance guide for more information.

It’s up to you! Chargent includes many settings that help you avoid storing your customer payment information in Salesforce. We recommend using tokenization and setting Chargent to never store payment information in Salesforce, but every organization has different needs. Review the options in Understanding Tokenization to make the right choice for your organization.

Installing Chargent

You can install Chargent using our Package Installation Manager (PIM), which will guide you through the process. After installing Chargent, we recommend visiting our Quick Start Guide to get up and running quickly!

Chargent is a managed package hosted on Salesforce’s AppExchange. If you’re installing Chargent, your Salesforce user must have the ‘Download AppExchange Packages’ permission. You can learn more about the requirements for installing a managed package by visiting Install a Managed Package.

The Package Installation Manager (PIM) is a tool that securely installs all required Chargent packages in your org with just a few clicks. The PIM was developed to simplify the installation process so you can get up and running quickly. See our Quick Start Guide for instructions related to the PIM.

The Package Installation Manager (PIM) installs three packages: Chargent Gateway (Base), Chargent Orders, and Chargent Anywhere. All three packages are installed automatically when using the PIM.

You’re almost there! After installing Chargent, you’ll want to ensure that your users have the correct licenses and permissions. Refer to our Quick Start Guide for additional instructions to help you get up and running in no time.

If you experience an error when installing Chargent for the first time, ensure you have the correct permissions to install a managed package. Additionally, see our documentation about error messages when updating for documented errors and solutions. If you can’t find an answer in our documentation, please contact our support team. We’re always happy to help!

Before removing Chargent, review Salesforce’s topic on uninstalling managed packages. Next, follow the instructions in Uninstalling Chargent. Make sure you uninstall Chargent’s packages before your paid licenses expire.

Updating Chargent

You can update to the latest version of Chargent today using the Package Installation Manager (PIM), ensuring you can take advantage of all of our latest features and security updates. If you’d rather not update Chargent manually, Push Updates occur three times per year and will keep your org up to date without lifting a finger.

Chargent’s updates give you access to the latest features, giving your business an edge in competitive markets. Additionally, we are constantly adding new gateway integrations to ensure that we have a solution for everyone. Last but not least, updating Chargent ensures that your payment processing remains as secure as possible.

No. Chargent updates are included for all customers. We aim to provide you with the best payment processing platform on Salesforce and are constantly innovating to make that happen.

We aim to release a Chargent update monthly; however, the cadence can vary. The latest release notes can always be found on our website. Customers who have not opted out of Chargent emails will also receive an email overview of the latest release.

It depends. We’ve simplified the update process by implementing push updates. Now, you can sit back and enjoy the update. That being said, we will only push updates to your org three times per year, so if you’re eagerly awaiting a specific release, you can manually update at any time using the Package Installation Manager (PIM).

Chargent uses push updates to ensure customers are on the latest and most stable version of Chargent, but these push updates don’t occur for every Chargent release. If you’d like to find out what version of Chargent you are on, see What version of Chargent am I on?

We always recommend testing in a Salesforce sandbox before rolling Chargent out in a production environment. You can download the latest version of Chargent in your sandbox using the Package Installation Manager (PIM). To learn more about testing best practices, see Testing Chargent.

While uncommon, we’ve documented a few known errors that have occurred while updating Chargent. See Understanding Chargent Updates for version-specific considerations and resolutions related to update errors. If you can’t find a documented resolution, please contact our support team. We’re always happy to help!
